Getting Started in IPE – 5 Things You Can Do Right Now

 

Sometimes I wonder how we got here.  About a decade ago, there were just a few small IPE conferences and it was common to see the same people at each one. There were a handful of well-known programs that we all wanted to be like when our IPE programs grew up.  And here we are in 2019, with health care leaders, policy makers, accreditors, providers, educators and many others all working to assure that our current and future workforce is prepared for high performance teamwork across professions.

At the Intersection of Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice: The Making of the Preceptor’s Guide to the Nexus

This is the story of a journey that began when I joined the Arizona State University Center for Advancing Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research, or CAIPER, as Faculty Lead of Clinical Partnerships. It ended two years’ later with the publication of The Preceptor’s Guide to the Nexus: Where Interprofessional Education Meets Collaborative Practice.  At the time, I had no idea where this path would lead.

Moral Distress During Covid-19: Listen For It, Support Each Other

I began writing this blog some weeks back. At the time, we all were just beginning to grasp the magnitude of what we would experience with COVID-19. The stories coming from the front lines of health care were powerful and concerning. Health care workers were stepping forward in the face of huge risks: If I go to work today, will I put my family at risk? If I don’t, will I fail my patients, my team?

When we put out our new digital magazine on moral distress and moral injury two months back, little did we know that we all would be called on for moral resilience – as health care folks, as parents, as children and members of our local, state and world communities.
