Reflections During the Changing Times in IPE

Reflections During the Changing Times in IPE

April 28, 2020

In this newly published addition to our Teaming at a Distance series, CAIPER Blog editor, Jody Thompson, reflects on the recent webinar Joy Doll gave at the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education.

A few weeks ago, members of the Creighton University Center for Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research (CIPER) team, Joy Doll, OTD, OTR/L, FNAP and Katie Packard, PharmD, MS, BCPS, AACC, presented "Prevailing in IPE during a Pandemic: Reflections from an Interprofessional Team" as part of the National Center’s Connecting at the Nexus: COVID-19 Edition webinar series.

The discussion encouraged me to reflect on what teams do have control over during what seems like uncontrollable times. The “big picture” approach from the CIPER team empowered me to remain focused on what my team can continue to contribute through some of our resources including eLearning modules, our digital magazine series, and blogs.

Examples of how the CIPER team has adjusted to the events of the last few weeks from their “mobilizing to support the organization” to ultimately their encouragement to “focus efforts in small but effective steps” was calm, authentic, focused, and most of all, reassuring. As programs around the country and world adjust to online learning and teaming remotely, the CIPER team shared their “Advice from the Frontlines”:

  • Stay positive
  • Do what you can
  • Use what resources you have
  • Plan a back up and then plan a back up to the back up
  • Be flexible
  • Be okay if it doesn’t work out

You can see the recording of their webinar, Prevailing in IPE during a Pandemic: Reflections from an Interprofessional Team, along with other webinars from the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education’s series, Connecting at the Nexus: COVID-19 Edition, on the National Center's website.
