News & Events

October 15, 2021

Through his Fellowship, Dr. Barret Michalec will develop an experiential-learning program for undergraduate health profession students. The program will be primarily pre-med and nursing students, but open to other health pre-professionals as well. It will connect clinical experiences to explore and to have engagement with specific elements of the arts and humanities.

The Harvard Macy Institute Art Museum-based Health Professions Education Fellowship engages selected scholars in a variety of pedagogical methods used in art museum-based education including Visual Thinking Strategies, the Personal Responses Tour, Thinking Routines as well as explorations of other art forms, metaphor, and mindful practice.

The goals of the proposed program are to emphasize the interconnectedness, shared values, and shared vulnerabilities of health professionals, at an early stage of professional identity formation.
