CAIPER and the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (NCIPE) have partnered to offer a very active three-day workshop March 28-30, 2018. Participants will learn and practice strategies and tools for high performance teamwork in care coordination and integrated care, and how to translate team roles, activities and outcomes into dollars.

I was asked to speak at the first advanced IPEC Institute in October this year. Academic-Practice teams come to IPEC workshops from all over the US to work on growing their interprofessional programs. The topic for my talk was integrating IPEC competencies in interprofessional learning.

The American health system has already begun a transition from a sick model to a patient centered/community-based prevention and wellness system. As nurse educators it is our charge to educate and prepare the next generation of nurses with the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for optimizing team-based care and interprofessional practice.

There is a growing emphasis on the idea of joy in the workplace and a push to add a 4th Aim for Healthcare’s Triple Aim focused on positive practice environments for clinicians. It is easy to understand why this is so important. We have 30+ years worth of data that has identified positive practice environments for clinicians are associated with better outcomes for patients, the workforce and organizations.

This past October, I traveled to Minneapolis with CAIPER team member Dr. Karen Saewert to join the Interprofessional by Design™: Meeting at the Crossroads to Accelerate Leadership Competency and Readiness for Transition to Interprofessional Practice, six-member grant team for a kickoff institute with the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (NCIPE).
